Who Will Be Involved In Developing Our Family's IFSP?

The people who must be included in developing your IFSP are:

  • you and any other family members you choose
  • an advocate or person outside of the family if you choose
  • the provider(s) of early intervention services for you and your child
  • your Child Service Coordinator
  • specialists who have evaluated your child

IFSP: Your Child And Family Rights

  1. An IFSP must be written within 45 days after your child is referred to the Infant-Toddler Program.
  2. You must give your approval for your child and family to receive services before the services can begin. This is done by signing the IFSP. You have the right not to sign the IFSP until you agree with it.
  3. Services you agree to and that are listed on the IFSP must start within 30 days after the IFSP is signed.
  4. You can choose which services you want from the ones suggested by your team. You can refuse some services and still receive others. You may stop a service anytime you wish.
  5. You must be notified in writing that a meeting to develop your IFSP will be held. The meeting must be at a time and location convenient for you.
  6. Specialists who will be working with you and your child must participate in developing the IFSP. If someone cannot attend the IFSP meeting, he/she may participate by phone, in writing, or in other meetings with you and your Child Service Coordinator.
  7. When a service provider signs the IFSP, he/she is agreeing to the plan and will provide the services for which he/she is responsible.
